With the blink of an eye, summer is gone and the subtle hints of fall are making themselves known through falling leaves and cool mornings. I've always found September and October to be a magical time with lots of traditions, fun, and memories. There are also loads of things to do in the community by way of football games, fall festivals, apple picking, pumpkin decorating, and more.
The autumn season also provides ample opportunities for kid-friendly activities and adventures. Today, my family and I welcomed in the cool weather and changing season with a fall-themed scavenger hunt and craft. We had a blast collecting leaves and acorns and making fall scenes out of construction paper, crayons, and the items we found outside. Here are some tips to plan a fall scavenger hunt of your own.
Fall Scavenger Hunt
To start, we planned our scavenger hunt by making a list of fall items that we might find outside. We included leaves of different colors, acorns, pinecones, and sticks. Each of us had a small bag to collect our findings and we made our way outside.
We spent about an hour outside collecting our supplies. We were not able to find all of the items on our list, but the girls got creative and added a few things like rocks and some tiny flowers from our front yard.
Once we were finished collecting our fall items, we went back inside where I had glue, paper, and crayons waiting. We made pictures using the leaves we found and added a few drawings to spruce up our artwork.
The activity proved to be much more than just something to fill our morning. As we found different items, we talked about the changing seasons, as well as some of the different events and holidays in the upcoming months. We also came across a woolly bear caterpillar, which was a big hit and certainly a sign that fall is on its way!
